Traditional stucco is cement plaster applied in three coats over metal lath, hard, heavy and impact resistant. EIFS is rigid foam board with a mesh base coat and a flexible acrylic finish, better insulating value, lighter, and much more dependent on getting the flashing details right.
Cement plaster cures with moisture rather than by drying out, so our low humidity, summer heat and the wind-driven rain that shows up during monsoon season all factor into scheduling. We work most of the year and plan the finish coat around the actual forecast instead of pushing it into bad conditions.
